Social Security Number (SSN) Verification validates a candidate’s SSN against official records. This provides a strong layer of identity confirmation and is commonly used in industries that require thorough background and identity checks.
How SSN Verification Works
SSN Verification cross-references the candidate’s submitted Social Security Number with official databases to confirm it is valid and matches the candidate’s identity information. The SSN is securely processed and never stored in plain text.
Reviewing SSN Verification Results
After expanding the SSN section in a job, you’ll see the verification status. Results indicate whether the SSN matched the expected records and if any discrepancies were found. The SSN verification process checks:
- SSN validity
- Name match against SSN records
- Date of birth match
SSN Job Statuses
Results can show as:
- Verified: Match confirmed
- Not Verified: Mismatch found
- Unavailable: SSN could not be checked against records
Troubleshooting
Why is the SSN tab blank when I open an IDV job?
SSN verification runs as a separate job from IDV — they do not run together in the same job. If you open an IDV job and the SSN tab is blank, that is expected.
To find your SSN data: locate your SSN job in the Vouched Dashboard (separate from the IDV job), open it, and click the SSN tab.
